Elephant Hike

I was super excited about doing this hike, especially because we
will be walking with or near elephants. My excitement quickly changed
when I heard about the number of people trampled to death by elephants.
I was assured our guide during the hike, will be trained and armed with
gear to scare those enormous creatures away if need be....so off we go!

Privacy please.....

Ok, fresh elephant poop on our trail...

Meet our guide, yes this 80 year old medicine man will
protect us with his stick!? Really?!?
Several times along the way, he told us to be quiet, used his
stick to dig around in the rainforest, and continued to walk.
He explained about all the plants and insects that
he uses to cure headaches, cancer, rashes and so much more.

It was beautiful.

As we walked we could hear the steps of the elephants near by
and the sounds of their voices. At this point, I think we were all
nervous, but we did stand quietly to watch this elephant only
feet away ignore us and walk away. Thank GOD!

Now that's fresh!

Our hike is over, we are safe and all in love with
the beauty of the rainforest and elephants home.
Leave it to me, to have what I think was a Nairobi Red Eye
insect bite me....oh my did it hurt! Our lovely guide the medicine man
quickly ran over to me, looked at my leg, ran to the forest back with some leaves.
He rubbed it in circular motion and instantly the pain disappeared. I could have kissed him!
Off we went, the medicine man game me a few more leaves, he must have known...the darn thing bit me again!
This time I let out a big F bomb for my students to hear...
